Ministry of Commerce Promotes Thai Fruit Exports through Online Trade Negotiations in 2022

Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce, announced that the department had successfully organized an online business matching event for fresh fruit and processed fruit products. The event took place from December 16-17, 2021, with the aim of facilitating export negotiations for 2022.
This project is one of 63 key initiatives planned by the DITP under its proactive fruit management measures for 2022.
The event received overwhelming participation, attracting 82 exporters and 79 importers, leading to 238 business matching meetings. Among these, 190 pairs successfully reached trade agreements.
The top five most in-demand fruit products included:
- Fresh fruits
- Dried fruits
- Frozen fruits
- Freeze-dried fruits
- Fruit juices
The top five participating import markets were:
- China
- Hong Kong
- Japan
- United States
- Myanmar
The event successfully generated trade negotiations worth over 1.454 billion baht.
Additionally, the DITP has scheduled two more rounds of online business matching (OBM) events for Thai fruit exports in 2022:
- March, to support the Eastern region’s fruit season
- July, to support the Southern and Northern regions’ fruit seasons
These initiatives will ensure that Thai fruit exporters can continue to operate effectively despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In the previous year, the DITP’s online trade negotiations generated a total trade value of 4.248 billion baht.
