The initiative aims to attract both Thai and foreign investors into the industrial sector.

Study Tour on Port and Logistics Management in Spain

Mr. Veeris also shared insights from his recent study tour in Spain, focusing on:

  1. Valencia Port
  2. Seawater Desalination Technologies
  3. Inland Port and Multimodal Transport Systems

During the visit, discussions were held on Spain’s Inland Ports (Dry Ports) and their logistics efficiency. Spain's inland port system supports efficient logistics operations by reducing congestion at seaports and integrating rail and road transportation.

Chachoengsao’s Inland Container Depot (ICD) Development Plan

Chachoengsao Province is also planning the development of an Inland Container Depot (ICD), with Mr. Jiratat Jampaiboon, President of the Chachoengsao Federation of Industries, stating that the province is on the path to full industrial recovery.

The ICD Chachoengsao project will cover 700 rai (approx. 280 acres) in Nong Teen Nok, Ban Pho District, and is expected to be completed within 2-3 years.

What is an Inland Container Depot (ICD)?

An ICD is a container station equipped with customs clearance services for both import and export cargo. It operates as an off-dock container yard, facilitating the smooth movement of goods without congestion at major ports.

Why is Chachoengsao Ideal for an Inland Port?

Chachoengsao is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and houses four major industrial estates:

  1. Wellgrow Industrial Estate
  2. Chachoengsao BlueTech City Industrial Estate
  3. 304 Industrial Park
  4. TFD 2 Industrial Estate

With over 2,000 factories of various sizes, Chachoengsao plays a key role in Thailand’s industrial supply chain. The ICD location is strategically chosen because:

  • It is near a railway station, allowing seamless integration with rail transport.
  • It can serve as a distribution hub for Northeastern Thailand and Cambodia via Sa Kaeo Province.
  • It connects to Laem Chabang Port, enhancing Thailand’s logistics competitiveness.

Government Support and Economic Impact

The Governor of Chachoengsao Province is fully supporting the project, recognizing its potential benefits for the industrial sector. The ICD will streamline freight transport, reduce logistics costs, and drive economic growth by enhancing rail connectivity with Laem Chabang Port and boosting Thailand’s position as a regional logistics hub.
