June, 23 2023

Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) is accelerating its expansion plans for new shipping routes in alignment with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, which focus on sustainable corporate development.
Recently, RCL held a naming ceremony to introduce its new container vessel, NATTHA BHUM, valued at $27.25 million. This addition increases RCL’s current fleet to 48 vessels, supporting the company’s long-term revenue sustainability strategy.
Managing Director Tawin Chok Tantuvanit stated that RCL aims to expand its service network into high-growth regions such as India, the Middle East, and Africa. The company is also preparing investments in new vessels to replace aging ships, enhance fleet capacity, and extend service networks. This expansion is carried out alongside efforts to protect the environment and reduce pollution.
The naming ceremony of NATTHA BHUM was led by Dr. Chamlom Atikul, Chairman of RCL, with Thirapong Chansiri, Chairman and CEO of Thai Union Group, and Pornnapa Chansiri presiding over the event. Also in attendance were Kriengkrai Chaiyasiriwongsuk, Director of the Port Authority of Thailand, along with business partners. Attendees toured the vessel and observed demonstrations of modern equipment designed to reduce pollution and enhance environmental sustainability.
The name NATTHA BHUM means "Land of Scholars." The vessel is 172 meters long, 27.5 meters wide, and has a carrying capacity of 1,930 TEUs. It is classified as a Bangkok Max vessel, the largest ship that can navigate the Chao Phraya River.
With a modern design, the vessel can accommodate more 40 HQ containers and incorporates advanced technologies, including a lighter hull and more efficient main engines. These innovations reduce fuel consumption at the same speed and distance, thereby lowering CO₂ emissions (Greenhouse Effect). Additionally, an exhaust gas filtration system has been installed, reducing sulfur emissions from 3.5% to less than 0.5%, aligning with ESG and sustainability policies.
In 2022, RCL ranked 26th among global maritime transport providers and was one of the leading container shipping companies in the region. The company currently operates a fleet of 48 vessels, ranging from 800 TEUs to 12,000 TEUs.
