New curriculum: High-speed rail engineering

Khon Kaen University is preparing to open a new course to support the high-speed rail job market in cooperation with China’s leading university, Southwest Jiaotong.

Which is the prototype of the High Speed Train Engineering curriculum.

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Khon Kaen Province attended a meeting on the High Speed Train project in cooperation with foreign countries to follow up on the progress of the new curriculum of Khon Kaen University, which is about to be offered.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, said about the curriculum (in summary) that:

Thailand’s mega-project, the Bangkok-Nong Khai route, is a Thai-Chinese collaboration that will connect Thailand to ASEAN and reach China. The project will be completed in 2025 and open for use in 2029.

The construction process is divided into 2 phases as follows:

  • Construction of Phase 1 of the Bangkok – Nakhon Ratchasima route
  • Construction of Phase 2 of the Nakhon Ratchasima – Nong Khai route

The high-speed rail project also has a route through Laos, passing through Nong Khai, Khon Kaen and to Bangkok.

In carrying out the construction of this project, Khon Kaen University is aware of the importance of producing graduates with the potential to support this project.”

In addition to the construction of high-speed rail projects in Thailand, there are also construction projects in Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia.

High-speed trains play a significant role in driving the economy and industry. Therefore, Thailand should plan and prepare its personnel to support the future job market in this field.

As for the progress of the curriculum, we are currently in the process of discussing the curriculum details in order to summarize the teaching content.
