ASEAN Harmonized Customs Coordination

As the monkeypox situation continues to see an increase in cases , the World Health Organization said on Wednesday (August 10) that there were a total of 27,814 laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox.

And 11 patients died from the disease in 89 countries and regions worldwide, with Europe and the Americas facing the worst outbreaks.

Currently, there is no specific treatment for monkeypox, but treatment is used to relieve symptoms and control complications. The mortality rate of this disease is 1-10%, which is much lower than smallpox.

For the import of goods related to monkeypox, there are ASEAN Harmonized Tariffs for pharmaceutical products for the treatment or prevention of monkeypox as follows:

  • Other vaccines used as medicine for humans, Customs tariff no. 3002.41.90, are not subject to duty.
  • Immunological products prepared for use in specified sizes or packaged for retail sale, tariff code 3002.15.00, are exempt from duty.
  • Other drugs prepared for use in prescribed sizes or packaged for retail sale, Customs tariff 3004.90.99, duty rate 10% (Section 12)

The customs tariff may change depending on the ingredients in each type of drug product. Therefore, for completeness and accuracy, if the importer wishes to know the correct tariff according to the facts of the goods to be imported,

Importers can submit a request for advance interpretation of customs tariffs via the Tariff e Service (Customs Department website).
