BTL joins in opening the international checkpoint at Tha Bok, Thanaleng, Lao PDR.

On December 4, 2021, at Nong Khai Railway Station, Nong Khai Customs officers and Nong Khai Railway officers jointly inspected and released a container train from Bangkok Terminal Logistics Co., Ltd. (BTL).

which transported goods from Laem Chabang to Thanaleng Station, Lao PDR, to participate in the Grand Opening of Thanaleng Dry Port International Border Checking Point, Cargo Terminal and to celebrate the opening of the Laos-China Railway.

With Mr. Phankham Viphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, as chairman, the ceremony was attended by government agencies, private sectors of the Lao PDR, and private sectors of Thailand, including BTL.

Tha Bok and Thanaleng Ports are an important part of the Vientiane logistics system, which is a key project of the Lao PDR National Logistics Strategy that will transform Lao PDR into a country with a transport network connection, in line with Laos’ vision of making Tha Bok and Thanaleng Ports a sustainable connector for various forms of transport in ASEAN and the world, and an important part in the country’s economic and social development.

The past operations have had important goals to develop cross-border transportation infrastructure to meet standards, with easy operations for import/export procedures, smooth, fast and safe transportation of goods, and along with solving problems of product transfer and warehouses to support trade and logistics connections.

After these projects are completed, Laos will have a modern, comprehensive infrastructure to connect to international multi-modal transportation systems, namely land, rail and sea, and enhance its competitiveness by providing comprehensive services.

Ms. Waraporn Chungcharoen, General Manager of Bangkok Terminal Logistics Co., Ltd. (BTL), said that BTL is a full-service logistics provider, both truck and rail transportation, to support and support the logistics of both domestic and international entrepreneurs in the Mekong River Basin. It has transported goods via rail from Laem Chabang to Thanaleng Station, Lao PDR since 2019 and has expanded its services to China via the Laos-China Railway efficiently.

This transportation is the transportation of agricultural raw materials to be processed into animal feed. Traveling from Laem Chabang by rail transportation service, passing through Nong Khai Railway Station, Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge 1, Mueang District, Nong Khai, heading to Thanaleng Station, Lao PDR, with 12 carriages. The opening of Thanaleng Port as a Dry Port this time is a good sign for the development of logistics in the Greater Mekong Subregion to be efficient, able to transport goods by container from Thailand-Laos-China and from China-Laos-Thailand, including forwarding to a fourth country via Thailand.

Rail transport will help to meet the needs and replace the problems of shipping by sea and land, such as the inadequacy of ships or cargo capacity for sea transport and road transport, which has higher transportation costs, reducing the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

However, when Laos has Thanaleng Port as a connection point for transporting goods, at the same time, the private sector sees that it wants the Thai government to promote the development of the Container Yard (CY) and the Cargo Loading Yard (CFS) in Nong Khai Province that is systematic and efficient, which will help facilitate and manage rail transport more conveniently and quickly, supporting the growth of rail transport in the future.
