Thai border trade exceeds nearly 60 billion in 6 months, expected to reach 100 billion by the end of 2023
The value of Thai border trade imports between October and April 2022, when compared to the same period in 2023, is considered to have increased.

Ms. Nipawan Yaibuates (Chief of Nakhon Phanom Customs) assigned Mr. Angkoon Angkacharoen (Director of Customs Control Division) to report the situation of Thai border trade at Nakhon Phanom Customs in fiscal year 2023 to the 3/2023 meeting of the Joint Public and Private Sector Committee on Economic Development and Resolution of Nakhon Phanom Province.

Mr. Angkoon Angkacharoen revealed interesting details that the value of border trade imports between October and April 2022, when compared to the same period in 2023, has increased in value.
That is, imported goods during October-April 2022 amounted to 14,560 million baht. In 2023, it increased to 19,818 million baht. Most imported goods were solar cells, including solar cell components, electricity, cement, and batteries.
As for export products, Mr. Angkoon said that there will be quite a lot in 2023. In October-April 2022, exports were 25,366 million baht. In the same period of 2023, exports jumped to 47,937 million baht.
The top export products are fruits, followed by energy drinks, petroleum products, electric power and live cattle, etc.
In addition, there are goods passing through Laos to third countries, mostly computer peripherals, signal distribution equipment, display screens, electrical equipment for sound signals, electrical appliances for medical treatment, etc., worth approximately 349 million baht, an increase of 126 million baht in the same month of 2022, or 56.41%.
While goods crossing the border from third countries to Laos, such as used clothing, excavators, cosmetics, powdered milk and shelled peanuts, amount to 450 million baht.
When comparing the value in April 2022, it increased by 241 million baht, or 115% from the figure for only exported goods throughout 2022, which was approximately 56 billion baht. For 2023, in the past 6 months, the export amount has reached 56 billion baht.
In addition, China has opened the border to allow Thailand to export more fruits. It is expected that in the next 6 months, the import and export volume in 2023 will definitely be higher than in 2022. But whether it will reach 100 billion baht or not, we will have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, from the report on the fiscal situation of Nakhon Phanom Province, it was reported that border trade expanded by 469.1%, with the value of exports through customs checkpoints expanding in fruit products such as durian, jackfruit, longan, mangosteen, mango, energy drinks, petroleum products and seasonings, and electrical energy.
As a result of the release of the Dynamic COVID-zero measures, investment, private consumption, and the agricultural sector all expanded by 1-44%, while government spending, service production, and the industrial sector contracted by 3-17%.
