Thailand-China opens new border crossing! Enhances fruit trade, effective September 1st.

Thailand and China have reached a significant agreement to expand the number of fresh fruit import and export border checkpoints by five, under the third-country transit cooperation framework, which will be effective from September 1, 2025.

Adding transportation points helps reduce costs and expand the market.

The agreement aims to speed up and distribute fruit from Thailand to various provinces in China, reduce congestion at traditional border checkpoints during the fruit season, and open up logistics options for farmers and entrepreneurs.

  • Thai side added 3 checkpoints: Thung Chang (Nan), Ban Huak (Phayao), Phu Du (Uttaradit)
  • The Chinese side added two checkpoints: Mengkang and Daluo (Yunnan Province).

This results in a total of 9 fruit import-export checkpoints on the Thai side and 12 checkpoints on the Chinese side under this protocol.

Clearing the way for competition in the Chinese market

This expansion of the port will reduce transportation costs, increase product distribution flexibility, and alleviate bottlenecks during the fruit season, significantly enhancing the competitiveness of Thai fruits in the Chinese market.

China remains a major market

In 2024, the value of fresh fruit exports from Thailand to China exceeded 180 billion baht, demonstrating China’s important role as a major agricultural market for Thailand.

Furthermore, the jointly signed protocol allows for future border adjustments if both parties agree, providing flexibility and openness for the development of long-term cooperation.
