Commerce Ministry pushes for online trade negotiations to boost Thai fruit exports in 2022
Mr. Phusit Rattanakul Sereerangrit, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, revealed that the department has organized a trade negotiation project for fruit products with year-round production and processed fruit products in an online format during December 16-17, 2021.
To encourage fruit entrepreneurs with year-round production, such as mangoes, coconuts, tamarinds, and pomelos, as well as processed fruit products, to negotiate trade and plan exports for 2022, the project is one of 63 projects that the department has planned to implement in accordance with proactive fruit management measures for 2022.
This online trade matching event has attracted a lot of attention from exporters, with 82 companies participating and 79 importers, with a total of 238 matches and 190 successful matches. The top 5 products of interest were fresh fruits, dried fruits, frozen fruits, freeze-dried fruits and fruit juices.
The top 5 countries participating in the negotiations were China, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States, and Myanmar, generating more than 1,454 million baht in trade negotiations.
In addition, the department also plans to organize two more Online Business Matching (OBM) projects for fruit products in March to support the fruit season in the Eastern region, and in July to support the fruit season in the Southern and Northern regions.
To help fruit exporters to continue exporting during the COVID-19 pandemic, last year the total value of trade negotiations was 4,248 million baht.
