Interesting facts about fruit exports
- The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) is the sole authority with complete jurisdiction over the import of agricultural and food products from China.
- Important regulations to know when exporting fruits to China include:
- Food Safety Law to regulate agricultural and food products in accordance with the joint agreement with China.
- The Law of Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine to control high-risk goods to ensure their safety.
Steps for sending fresh fruit from Thailand to China
- Farmers who produce products request to register as exporters with the Department of Agriculture.
- Farmers request certification of production sources or GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) and production systems according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
- Farmers/exporters must apply for a Phytosanitary Certificate or “PC” from the Department of Agriculture to attach with the goods to be exported.
- The product is shipped with a Phytosanitary certificate (PC).
- If the fruit passes the standards, it can be sold in China.
- The goods will pass inspection at the Chinese import port. If they do not pass, they will be returned.
Conditions for exporting fruit from Thailand to China
- Products must be free from controlled pests in China, such as worms and insects.
- Longan must have a residual sulfur dioxide content of no more than 50 milligrams/kilogram.
- Products must be accompanied by a health certificate (PC) at all times.
- Products must not contain pesticides and chemical residues exceeding Chinese standards.
- Products must be pesticide-free and packaged using appropriate methods under the supervision of the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives or must have received the Agricultural and Food Standards Certification Mark (Q Mark).
- 13 types of fruits exported from Thailand, such as durian, longan, mango, mangosteen, etc., must come from GAP-certified plantations and GMP-certified packing plants.
