Border trade and cross-border trade in May grew by 38%, up for 5 consecutive months!
Revealing the figures for border trade and cross-border trade in May, it was as high as 150,858 million baht, which has continuously expanded for 5 consecutive months this year, totaling 677,078 million baht.
Cross-border trade
By Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Minister of Commerce, revealed the figures of border trade and cross-border trade in May, which is as high as 150,858 million baht or +38%, which has expanded continuously for 5 consecutive months this year, totaling 677,078 million baht, or a growth rate of 29.15%. It is expected that this year will be able to surpass the target of 1.4 trillion baht.
The value of border and cross-border trade in May can be divided into:
- Border trade 75,659 million baht (+4.13%)
- Cross-border trade 75,199 million baht (+7.45%)
If combined from the beginning of the year (January – May), it can be divided into
- Border trade 371,040 million baht (+19.85%)
- Cross-border trade 306,038 million baht (+42.57%)


The factors that make trade positive are as follows:
- Continuously pushing for the opening of border checkpoints to increase border trade (46 checkpoints have been opened from 97 checkpoints that were closed and will be opened 11 more checkpoints)
- Collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce and the private sector to accelerate and proactively resolve issues so that goods crossing each country’s borders can pass more conveniently and quickly.
- Economic stimulus measures and increased vaccinations by each country have led to the reopening of cities and increased economic activity.
