Government and private sectors respond to policies for new-age trucks using clean energy
Currently, various entrepreneurs are responding to the above strategies and developing new-generation trucks that use clean energy.
Modern trucks use clean energy
If referring to the 20-year Thai transport system development strategy (2018-2037), in Strategy 4, it is determined to develop using technology, innovation and efficient management (Innovation & Management).
Land transportation of goods is considered the country’s main mode of transportation at present. And the hero who transports goods is none other than trucks. At present, it is pleasing that various entrepreneurs have accepted the above strategy and are developing new-age trucks that use clean energy to replace the old combustion engine trucks.
In the government sector, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) to study the guidelines and models for developing modern innovations and technologies to be applied to the development of modern trucks to be more efficient, whether in terms of safety.
In terms of environmentally friendly transportation or efficient transportation, it also increases new options for truck operators nationwide to consider in order to develop their own trucks. Interesting truck technologies are as follows:
Electric Vehicle Technology
There are many types of this technology, such as hybrid electric vehicles (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BV), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FV).
Pollution capture technology
This system captures carbon dioxide before it is released from the truck’s exhaust pipe and converts it into a liquid and stores it in a tank on the truck’s roof. This liquid carbon dioxide can then be delivered to gas stations for reuse, including converting it into traditional fuel.
Use of biofuel energy
For example, biodiesel, which is produced from animal fat, small algae, and vegetable oils, is a clean, renewable energy source that is environmentally friendly and can decompose itself through natural biological processes. These technologies not only help reduce transportation costs, but also reduce potential impacts on the environment, especially air pollution problems from PM 2.5 dust.
In addition to transportation technology, there are also many interesting new technologies in terms of management to increase transportation efficiency, such as:
Fleet Management Software Technology
It is a truck management and tracking system that collects, stores and analyzes data, allowing truck owners and administrators to evaluate the performance of drivers, manage goods and arrange the most suitable routes, effectively reducing fuel costs and time loss.
GPS Fleet Tracking Technology
Helps track truck routes during transportation, allowing you to know the location of trucks at each time, time leaving the origin, time spent in transportation, time reaching the destination, time spent stopping, route used in transportation, and speed used in transportation. Helps increase efficiency in management and control of transportation.
Let’s take the example of the private sector that has adapted and applied the innovation of modern trucks.
Thai Watsadu has initiated the idea of using EV Trucks to transport products from warehouses to distribute to branches nationwide, totaling 21 branches. In the future, the goal is to cover all areas nationwide and increase the number of EV Trucks by more than 30 by 2023. There has been an analysis to show the advantages of clean energy trucks as a guideline for entrepreneurs who are making decisions, as follows:
One: A very worthwhile investment, because EV Trucks can travel up to 400 kilometers on a single charge, which is worth 3 baht per kilometer, and can reduce energy costs from the original diesel power consumption by up to 50%.
Two: EV Trucks help reduce costs for organizations because they use an electrical system, no liquids, and only check the condition of the wiring, motor, battery, and tires. And there is a maintenance check every 10,000 kilometers.
Three: Using EV Truck, a clean energy truck, helps reduce air pollution such as carbon dioxide that causes environmental problems and global warming, equivalent to planting 200 trees per year. In addition, the driving is quiet, helping to reduce noise pollution on the road, but still taking into account safety with sensors around the vehicle, warning small vehicles that the vehicle is moving.
The NESDB sincerely hopes that these new innovations and technologies will be new options for entrepreneurs to develop their own trucks, which will help increase efficiency in management, reduce logistics costs, and most importantly, reduce various pollution problems that may occur in the environment.
