  • Contract starts on 30 June 2020 and ends on 16 December 2022.
  • Contractor

  • Progress
    • Achieved 9.19% of the projected results from 8.60%.
    • 0.59% ahead of schedule
    • A four-lane road is being built, both ways. The work is to fill the embankment, compact it into a laterite road before paving the road surface to meet road construction standards. Then, lane dividers will be drawn, traffic signs, warning signs, and lighting will be installed. At the same time, piles are being driven to place beams for the construction of a bridge across the canal.

Part 2: Thai road works and Thai border checkpoints

  • Project location
    • On Highway 244 between Km.9+400-12+082.930, a distance of 2.683 km., Bueng Kan Province
  • Cost of work: 883,110,000 baht
  • Contract starts on 25 Sep 2020 and ends on 13 Mar 2023.

Part 3: The Thai side of the Mekong River Bridge Project (including improvements to the Highways intersection) 212 and the multipurpose area under the bridge)

    • Between Km.12+082.930-13+032.930
  • Cost of work: 786,523,850 baht
  • Contract starts on 24 Nov 2020 and ends on 8 Nov 2023.
  • Contractor
    • Napha Construction Co., Ltd.
  • Progress
    • Progress 0.45% from plan 1.75%
    • 1.30% slower than planned
    • The Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge is being built, with the bridge alignment on the Thai side. Work has already been opened in areas where it is possible, including construction of a bridge ramp, a multi-purpose area under the bridge, and improvements to the intersection on Highway 212.
    • There are delays because Thailand and Laos must reach an agreement to define the construction area boundaries, both on land and in water, according to the designated areas only, as well as minor details in the transportation of construction materials. They must be transported in and out of the same side only, i.e., if entering through Thailand, they must exit through Thailand, due to tax reasons. In addition, the third wave of the Covid-19 outbreak has also resulted in delays.

“However, we are still confident that construction will still be completed according to the contract.”

When completed, the project will help strengthen good relations between the countries and support the Connectivity policy in developing the logistics system between Thailand and Laos, strengthening the transportation network between Thailand-Laos-Vietnam-China to be more convenient, save time and expenses, and enhance the potential of border trade.
