The Highways District of Sa Kaeo reported progress on the new road connecting Thailand and Cambodia, or Highway No. 3646, Aranyaprathet-Thai/Cambodian border (Ban Nong Ian-Stung Bot), at the intersection of Highway No. 33 (Suphan Buri-Aranyaprathet) and Highway No. 3586, construction is now more than 50% complete.
By the Highways Office 10 (Nakhon Ratchasima) has prepared the highway network to support the temporary border opening of Ban Nong Ian-Stung Bot, Tambon Tha Kham, Amphoe Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo Province, to be a route for transporting goods and reducing congestion at the Ban Khlong Luek Aranyaprathet border checkpoint, which is currently used for transporting goods and allowing people to cross the border.
The progress of over 50% comes from 2 parts :
Section 1, Km. 0+000-25+211, the starting point of the project is at Tambon Pak Kha, Amphoe Wattana Nakhon, Sa Kaeo Province and ends at Tambon Tha Kham, Aranyaprathet District, distance 25.211 km., budget 1,900,030,700 baht, divided into 2 more parts:
- Part 1, km.0+000-10+500, distance 10.500 km. Budget 1,007,157,900 baht, progress 58.6%
- Part 2, Km.10+500-25+211, distance 14.711 km. Budget 892,872,800 baht, progress 55.6%
Both parts of the contract started on 24 April 2019 and ended on 7 April 2022, with a duration of 1,080 days, with S.P.T. Civil Group Co., Ltd. as the contractor.
The current status is in the process of paving a 4-lane concrete road back and forth, along with the construction of 5 bridges over the river for the initial to middle section of the project, approximately 19 kilometers, which is estimated to be completed within 2022.
Part 2: Another 6-kilometer expedited section on the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint area, which connects to the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge (Ban Nong Ian-Stung Bot), to be completed by July this year.
Since the border checkpoint building will be completed in September 2022, construction is being accelerated to open the Ban Nong Eian-Stung Bot checkpoint for temporary use, using 8 shipping containers as temporary buildings.
